Description
The first part of the hike follows a field path through lush meadows down to Alp Trida. This section can also be covered by the chairlift. Passing by the ski hut (open only in winter), the trail gently ascends toward Alp Bella. To the south, you can enjoy the view of Piz Mundin and the Ötztal Alps. After about an hour of hiking from the starting point, you will reach Alp Bella. This alpine pasture is one of the highest cow pastures in Europe, at 2,380 m above sea level. The milk is processed in the dairy in Samnaun-Laret. Transportation occurs via a milk pipeline approximately 1.5 cm thick. From Alp Bella, you can also see the round rock formation "by the church"; an impressive geological witness to the formation of the Alps. After a refreshment, the hike continues via Oberalp to Unteralp, where one of the largest boulders in Switzerland, the Alpstein, is located. The descent along the Mühlbach is gentle, leading down to Samnaun-Compatsch or Samnaun-Laret.
