ALPINARIUM GALTÜR – MUCH MORE THAN A MUSEUM

Visually speaking, Alpinarium Galtür is something quite special. The design of the exterior is in keeping with the natural surroundings; at 345 metres in length and 19 metres high, its avalanche barrier wall is one of a kind in Europe. The interior also exudes a contemporary and top-quality artistic design. The building’s quality is underlined by its nomination for the European Museum of the Year Award 2007 and 2015, as well as having been awarded the Austrian quality seal for museums.

The versatility of Alpinarium Galtür is also impressive. The focus is of course on the permanent exhibitions, 'Ganz Oben' Stories about Galtür and the world. A memorial room remembers the victims of 23rd February 1999 disaster. In Galtür, the knowledge about the special features of the “Galtürer Enzner” lives on, which is why there is a special exhibition about history and stories about living tradition, locations, extraction, processing and healing power of this alpine plant.

The café "Gefrorene Wasser" in the Alpinarium is also appealing with its sun terrace and breath-taking view from the panorama windows. Active holiday-makers can delve into a mountain adventure on the indoor bouldering wall. Last but not least there is an auditorium with state-of-the-art seminar technology.
